About This Site
Living Out Beyond is created by John McLachlan and Darren Bond, two urban professionals who are relocating to a small island off the coast of British Columbia (about 80km from Vancouver).
It will be of interest to people who have moved or are considering a move from an urban area to a more rural or remote area in order to experience a lifestyle that offers something different than what they have experienced living in “the city.”
Who is Living Out Beyond for?
- Urban professionals seeking a different working and living environment
- Working people or those nearing retirement who wish to leave the city to work and play
- Those interested in building a house
- Those interested in reading about the experience of two urban professionals making a shift to a rural lifestyle (one is a self-employed creative (John) and the other is a “30 years with one company” corporate man (Darren)
- People interested in hearing about life on an island and the challenges and joys that brings
Who this blog is not likely for?
- Back to the land, off the grid, hippies, granola-heads (though I have friends who fit these descriptions, and I like them very much, it’s just not us, so we can’t write about this perspective and be true to ourselves)
- Self-builders. We are not builders so won’t be able to share too much about that whole experience. Great admiration for you, though.
