I have started to realize that I can glean meaningful – to me – metaphorical lessons from living out beyond. I think I’ll impart this great wisdom in short little posts, just for you.
Ya, it’s true. Kindling isn’t like… Say… Lettuce… Where once you cut it, you better use it fairly quickly. Also the nature of kindling lends itself to outside cutting, where if it’s pouring rain, its somewhat self defeating.
How many times have I been out with a dim headlamp, bent over trying to shield the freshly cut kindling from the driving downpour whilst attempting to split another few sticks off and not have them fall onto the wet ground.
I suggest a corollary to your lesson, which is to cut your kindling well enough in advance of when you need it to ensure suitable conditions.
Indeed, yes, Doug. In real life, we could say something like: set aside bits of money for retirement, or, get regular car maintenance, or, arrange a small family get-together before you need to… With kindling, it’s a breeze (kinda)!
